My passion for patient care and holistic wellness has been a driving force in my career. In my free time, I love spending quality time with my husband and our three amazing kids. Whether we’re out on the lake soaking up the sunshine, watching my kids play sports, or simply enjoying a family night together, I cherish every moment. Ruben Varela RDCS, RVT, RCS

Ultrasound Technician

My name is Ruben, I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and completed my cardiac sonography training at The Aquarius Institute of Technology in Des Plaines, IL. While finishing at the top of my class, I began focusing on lower extremity vascular scanning. I believe the key to my success is patience and understanding. I strive to put my patients at ease with jokes and by answering any questions they have about the scanning process. This helps relieve the stress and anxiety often associated with the varicose vein struggle. Helping my patients feel comfortable is my favorite part of the job. In my free time, I enjoy fixing things around the house and riding my motorcycles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are spider veins vs. varicose veins?

Spider veins are small, superficial veins that appear red, blue, or purple. Varicose veins are larger, bulging veins caused by underlying valve dysfunction and are often associated with symptoms like heaviness, aching, or swelling.

Varicose veins occur when vein valves fail, allowing blood to pool. Common factors include genetics, hormones, prolonged standing, aging, and prior vein injury or clots.

Conservative: compression stockings, leg elevation, exercise. Procedural: radiofrequency ablation (RFA), VenaSeal™, Varithena™, and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy. Treatment is guided by ultrasound and symptom severity.

No. Lifestyle changes may improve symptoms but do not eliminate varicose veins. Definitive treatment requires medical procedures.

Symptoms typically worsen over time and may lead to skin changes, inflammation, bleeding, or venous ulcers.

Often yes, if medically necessary. We verify benefits, obtain authorization, and provide a clear cost estimate before treatment.

Treatments are well tolerated. Local anesthesia is used, and most patients experience only mild discomfort. Pro-Nox™ is available for additional comfort.

Yes. Many patients have internal vein dysfunction with symptoms like heaviness, fatigue, or swelling. Ultrasound is required for diagnosis.

Minimal downtime. Most patients return to normal activity the same or next day. Walking is encouraged.

Symptoms often improve within days to weeks, with continued improvement over time.

Vein-ity provides medically focused vein care led by Dr. C. Allyson Walker, a board-certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Patients receive personalized treatment plans, in-office ultrasound and procedures, efficient access to care, bilingual support, and a boutique, patient-centered experience rather than a high-volume model.
